Fish a Broad Range of Species with Shallow Draft Charters!
Unless tageting a specific species, on most trips we catch upwards of five different species. Speckled trout, redfish, white trout, kingfish (aka ground mullet) flounder, shark, croakers and black drum. Altlantic Sharpnose and Bonnethead Shark are small coastal sharks just off Biloxi and are plentiful in the waters around the barrier island. The Sharpnose average around 8 lbs. and the Bonnethead around 10 lbs. We focus on these species for family fishing because of their relatively small size and extremely aggressive fight. They are fairly easy for the Captain to handle for safe release, or on occasion, for the freezer. These shark are very tasty and don't have the predominant blood line, or red meat of the large coastals such as Blacktip.
Black Drum is another prolific species here on the coast. In 2003, Shallow Draft Charters led a Women angler to an IGFA world record Black Drum in the 8lb test class. These fish grow to upwards of 60 lbs. with 30 and 40 lb. fish fairly common.
The Barrier Islands
Biloxi, as well as the rest of the Mississippi Gulf Coast are protected by four barrier islands: Petit Bois, Horn Island, Ship Island, and Cat Island, adding another dimension to Biloxi fishing. These Island are part of the Gulf Island National Seashore Park Service and provide a gorgeous setting for camping and picnics as well as very diverse and productive saltwater fishing. Some of the finest Mississippi Gulf Coast Fishing is at or near the Islands just a few short miles off of Biloxi. Bull Reds, Shark, Cobia, Pompano and Quality Speckled Trout are among the species we target at the Islands.
